We went to the wonderfully weird Noel Fielding exhibition at the Royal Albert Hall for Mother’s Day. I loved the colours of this painting and decided to do a rough version on my nails. It reminded me of the Groke from the Moomins… The exhibit was really good, definitely a couple of pieces there I […]
My fun new years resolution was delayed this year, but I am very happy I can finally start sharing it with you. In the run up to Christmas I got my hands on a Wreck This Journal. These books are very popular on the internet at the moment, and serve as an invitation for you […]
A few days ago I shared a work-in-progress shot of a drawing. I watched one of my favourite movies (Girl Interrupted) and was inspired by an image of Ryder and Jolie that I’d found on Pinterest. This is it, sort of finished. Finished to the point where I’m tired of it, anyway. I’m still not […]
A while ago Hannah and I played with some marble inks. They were a lot of fun, and a lot of mess. The inks we used were pearlescent, which I think made them a bit tricky at times. We tried lots of colour combinations and papers, too much ink and not enough. Here are my share. Finally […]
I don’t think I know a lot about art. More than the average person maybe, but not a special amount. I spend a lot of my time trying to rectify this, and then the rest of my time wondering if I’m tainting my own creativity. It is quite a conflict, but then I remember that […]
This isn’t the first time I’ve written about this, and I doubt it will be the last. Freelancing has been a journey of discovery for me, not least the free time I allow myself. We all imagine we’ll do great things when we “have the time” and sometimes we do. Sometimes fear gets in the […]
Fellow Jazhans conspirator Hannah and I booked a long weekend in Paris. The goal was to explore as much art as possible, whilst making the most of French cuisine and going up tall buildings. In those things we were successful, with some thoughts for a second trip in the future.
These didn’t turn out how I intended, but that’s always the way! I didn’t want to copy a Monet, I wanted to give the impression of it and I think this works for that. It’s one of the few times I wished so many of my polishes didn’t have glitter in them though. There’s a […]
About a month ago I had a meeting in London, which placed me quite near the Tate Britain. I decided to bunk off for the afternoon and work in the evening (the joys of freelance!) Having my Tate pass is brilliant because it means I can walk into any exhibit, at any point, without having […]
We’re fortunate in Woking to have our own gallery. Even more fortunate that it is free to visit! When I have people to stay it is always one of the things on the list. They have tons of interesting art, and often things you wouldn’t see anywhere else.
I found this cool pin which shows someone putting crayons into a silicon ice cube tray and cooking them in the oven for a bit. The result is cute, marbled heart shaped crayons. I decided to give it a try.
I invited my brother over to make some art with me. I’d had this idea about bubbling paint, something which I’m pretty sure I did at infant school. It’s fun, messy and abstract. We accidentally ate more paint than is probably ok, but oh well. Read on to see our messes!
