Today I finally finished sorting out my art supplies, went for lunch with a friend and stopped off to give blood.
Lunch was lovely, the Peacock Farm Pub in Bracknell does really good, affordable food. It was nice to hang out with someone during the day. The adjustment from being with people 8 hours a day, to being with no people for most of the day has been a little weird.
I’ve been giving blood since I was 17, and if you are able to do so I really advise doing so. It doesn’t take very long, it doesn’t hurt as much as you’d think (really, I barely notice it) and they have FREE BISCUITS at the end of it.
I found out two things while I was there. One, that I really should have pushed to go the last time they came round. My blood type is B-, I think only 1-2% of people have that blood type in the UK. The blood stocks for it are incredibly low. The nurse who got me all set up told me I was the first B- they’d seen in ages.
Two, that I have two veins in my arm where most people usually have one. It is rare, but not “freakish” or so the nurse told me. I figure it’s good to have a spare.
And the biscuits were good. Find out here if you are able to donate, and then go and do it. I recommend making an appointment so you don’t have to wait around too long.
