Browns, golds, oranges, reds and glitter leaves. Simple sponging of coloured layers.
I had trouble picking a theme this week, and then remembered I was going to see Ballyturk at the National Theatre. As a result, this week’s theme was Cillian Murphy‘s eye colour—blue. I layered some different blues with a sponge and finished with a layer or two of Barry M’s “Mermaid”.
I went for a sunset backdrop to a little elephant decal. The elephants were only on the thumb as I didn’t have time to do all the nails. The gradient isn’t bad, but I would have preferred different colours/non glitter polishes for the sunset. It worked quite nicely though, elephants are such wonderful animals!
I didn’t really think this through and it’s ended up being very similar to other weeks. This is Models Own Indian Ocean on top of a blue, which looks the same as when it’s on black. I will do something extra special next week to make up for the pseudo-duplicate!
Since I am in France this week, I thought I’d use the “French tips kit” I bought years ago. I’m not a fan of the flesh colour, and find it’s better for doing iridescent bits in galaxy nails. Nonetheless, I used it. They were ok. Phone photo, apologies.
I decided after 24 weeks of painted nails that they might need a break. They’re still a bit stained from a green that somehow goes through base-coat. I’ve been using my Burt’s Bees cuticle cream and layering some Sally Hansen Maximum Growth. I don’t usually do use the SH, but this is the longest they’ve […]
I’m still learning with gradients. There are tons of tutorials available, but there seems to be some knack I’m not quite getting. Nonetheless, I love this grungy gradient—pink to black. It looks more like a gradient in real life than in the photo. Expect more gradients as the year continues!
These didn’t turn out how I intended, but that’s always the way! I didn’t want to copy a Monet, I wanted to give the impression of it and I think this works for that. It’s one of the few times I wished so many of my polishes didn’t have glitter in them though. There’s a […]
I am taking a Monster High doll (Rochelle Goyle) to Paris with me to do a silly photography project. I love the colours of her hair and had yet to find a colour that went well with the pink crackle. Well, boom. Blue works, and looks cool. Update: Some Paris photos on Instagram.
I have two Barry M magnetic polishes, from before they brought out the super sparkly ones. I don’t use them very often because they require ninja skills, and serious hand-eye co-ordination to get right. Plus I find that my nail beds are so long and curved, the magnet only reaches down the middle strip and […]
I didn’t really have any Easter colours except pink, so I used one with some nail pens for the speckled effect.
